Meeting Minutes January 8, 2014
Outgoing president, Michael Joseph, opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. He offered a very heartening prayer for the invocation and led us in the “Pledge of Allegiance”. He introduced the dignitaries in the room, Division I Governor Linda Oliver and Area Governor Annette Beck. He asked our three visitors to introduce themselves, Carlos Campos, Vicki Chvatal, and Jack Welch.
Members in attendance at this meeting were Pebby Garner, Amy Espinoza, Michael Joseph, Santina Basham, Bob Martin, Stephanie Reyes, Fathme Del Castillo, John Adams, Linda and Richard Oliver.
Following the meeting announcements, Michael invited our Area Governor, Annette Beck, to induct our officers elect for the January 1, 2014 through June 30, 2014 term. Annette masterfully discharged the outgoing officers with thanks for their service to the club. She then called the officers elect to the lectern. Each were charged with their individual responsibilities. When asked, each promised to serve in his/her own capacity to the best of his/her capability. Our newly installed officers are: Pebby Garner, President; Amy Espinoza, VPE & SAA; Fathme Del Castillo, VPM; Santina Basham, VPPR; and Michael Joseph, Secretary & Treasurer.
Following the induction ceremony, Michael turned control of the meeting over to President Pebby Garner. Pebby thanked Annette for the ceremony, then introduced the TMOD, Michael Joseph.
Linda gave us the word of the day, Amy shared an educational tip with us. Michael explained the Toastmasters program asking Bob, the Topicsmaster, to explain Table Topics and Amy, the General Evaluator, to explain her role together with her evaluation team, Timer, Richard, Grammarian & Wordmaster, Linda, and “Ah” Counter John.
Michael introduced our first speaker, Amy. Her speech titled “When the Crayons Quit” was developed according to the CC Manual, Project 6 Vocal Variety. Amy did an excellent job using many voices to illustrate the characters in the book that she read from.
Michael introduced our second speaker, John. His speech titled “The Auction” was developed according to the CC Manual, Project 5, Your Body Speaks. John says we bid or commit to what we want to keep such as perseverance, service, and
Table Topics were a set of dynamic issues: new beginnings by Santina, turn a failure into a new beginning by Carlos, and Linda talked about leaving a legacy.
Pebby evaluated Amy’s speech and commented on her use of voices. Santina evaluated John’s speech. She exclaimed the fantastic use of word choices and the use of humor, then suggested he slow down his speaking pace and use pauses.
The control of the meeting was turned over to the TMOD then to our new president, Pebby Garner. Pebby asked for feedback from our guests and the review of meeting roles for next week from our VPE Amy. Pebby, full of excitement, adjourned her first meeting as club president at 8:25 p.m.
